blast from the past

Soaking up the sun on Nun's Island in the summer of '72

today, i will...

  • not let the neighbour's loud music and pervasive cigarette smoke annoy me.
  • finish making my wontons
  • not mope around because it's Sunday (which is like a life-long tradition for me)
  • do something creative, no matter how uninspiring it is.
  • revamp something in my home to satisfy my need for change
  • not let the dreary weather get me down
  • unclutter my life some
  • share with you the coolest pair of jeans I have ever owned anyone has ever owned
BOOM!
a closer look

i find myself lacking

I got nothing. NOTHING!!

I want to write something. I even have a few ideas. But then I get here, write a few lines, think to myself "well, this isn't going anywhere" and delete.

Try again. "Well, no one wants to read about that" and delete.

And again. "Now, how should I put this" and delete...oh wait, no need to delete there. Couldn't even get the words on the page.

Sigh.

I'm a far cry from a "writer", but can I still have writer's block?

I feel like I have something to say, but the words are getting put together right.

I'll chock it up to it being Sunday, and stick to posting pictures with minimal text. Maybe that first sentence will pop into my head like magic while I'm doing the laundry or something. Then -  watch out.

some girls

Some girls are just inherently and effortlessly cool.

blast from the past

I might not know this woman, and I might have a feeling that she was one of my dad’s old girlfriends, but I like her attitude and I love the setting,  which is somewhere in France - I'm gonna guess Paris.

oh, the fun to be had!

I'm sure my friend Alexy would love this, so this is for her.

Let's face it - so are most things on this blog, considering she is the true No Mimes Allowed follower.

If you have a built-in camera on your laptop or computer, check out laphotocabine.com and simply enjoy!

Only $1,550 at Holt Renfrew. Yeah, I'm on my way to get a pair right now.

when we were children

Dream a dream of fairies, elves and all the magical woodland creatures that existed when we were children.

I must admit that I'm surprised at my choice footwear for fall. I didn't think I was a lace-up booties kind of girl. Actually, I think that's exactly why I like these.

{I realize that these aren't booties, but I like them and they were on the same website, so I included them. I like the victorian feel of them}

blast from the past

speaking of

As I have already mentionned, I have killed plant time and again. So it may seem like I'm irrationally happy about my little basil plant, but this little guy is my proof that there is still hope for me and my green(ing?) thumb.
{when my dad gave it to me}

{...and now}
I was especially happy when I found out that my friend AND her mom have tried growing basil plants over and over again with no luck. I find this baffling, but there you have it.

adorable

It's cute when a little kid does it, totally different story when the leering guy in the subway does it.
Happy Saturday morning!

the best pizza ever

Maybe it's because we made it from semi-scratch - we don't make dough - but this is the best pizza i've ever had!

This whole meal stemmed from a desire to use my basil plant - pun intended. I'm so proud of not only keeping my plant alive, but actually having it grow and flourish. I had to use the fruits of my labour at least once before the cold settles in. I figured pizza was as good a choice as any.

I put everything I could think of on it and it was the perfect amount.

I skipped the tomato sauce and put fresh spinah leaves instead, sprinkled some mozzarella and goat milk mozzarrella (a revelation), mushrooms, more of the two cheeses, red onions, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, some more cheese, garlic, ham and walnuts (yes, walnuts - from here on out I'm putting walnuts on everything I eat), some more cheese, for good measure. I topped it of with - surprise, surprise - some more cheese only this time I used some parmesan I forgot I had. Stuck it in the oven for 12 minutes, or you can do it on the BBQ. Once it was all finished, I added the fresh basil leaves (which I almost forgot). And voila!

Perfection.

bummed

With the long weekend over, it occurs to me that summer is coming to its inevitable end and that bums me out.

Here's hoping for an Indian summer!

what's on your playlist?

Heyo!
I feel like it's been awhile, but I had quite a busy long weekend, which was fantastic, by the way. And this week, I was recovering from 4 days of booze, late nights and lots of poutine.

I was pretty sluggish today, as I actually usually am at the end of a week. Consequently, while I was waiting for the bus, I couldn't muster the energy to find my book in my purse or the desire to even read. I opted for my mp3 player instead. And in retrospect, I definitely stopped appreciating the effects of an upbeat song.
As I was walking up to my apartment, keys at the ready, with big plans of letting myself in and plopping down for the night.
Just as I opened door, my iPod randomly decides that it's time for some Outkast. Do we all remember Outkast? Of course you do! Hey Ya! is definitely *the* Outkast tune, IMHO. And it's a song that will always get me moving. Sure enough I spent the following 5 minutes shaking my booty a la white-girl-who-can't-dance and I gotta say it felt pretty good. It was the closest thing I've had to a workout since... well Monday, but whatever.

All this to say, I think it's important to my sanity and good health that I compile a shake-your-booty playlist for days when I'm feeling lazy, slow - just all around BLAH.
Some other songs I already have in mind; Let it Rock, Forever...
And I'm open to suggestions, people.

{this is glorious, delicious poutine for those of you who might not know it. It's definitely a must-try}

happy birthday, mommy!

Happy, Happy Birthday to the most patient, giving and loving person in my life. LOVE YOU! xx

{Random Christmas picture, but I just love how she looks on this one. On second thougth, I guess it`s not that random, I mean one does get to open gifts on one`s birthday.}

jones soda co.

Ok, picture this.

A cute little garden wedding, very DIY, very rustic with centerpieces in Mason jars, lemonade served in vintage drink dispensers with twinkle lights and tea candles everywhere and personal touches added in all the right places - pictures, mementos and all little things that represent the couple.

{rob has a thing with colourful, striped socks}
Now you have a vague idea (the same vague idea as me) of what I want my wedding to look like. I might not know what food I'd like or where I'd have the ceremony and reception or even an inkling of my palette, but there are some things that I'm totally set on.

Now, to get to my point, I was walking the aisles at the supermarket and I happened upon soda drink: Jones Soda Co. You might have seen this around. I did, but never really took notice. But the bottles were so charming that it just encouraged an idea I had at the back of my head.

A while back, I thought how fun it would be to have glass soda bottles at my not-yet-existent wedding, and how cool would it be if they had a fun and romantic picture of me and my husband-to-be.
Well, after a quick search of the Internet (like type in Jones-Soda-in-Google-and-hit-search-quick), I found out that my idea is reality! You can go on the website and create your own personal bottle!
I'm entirely too excited about this, but I'm not ashamed.

{green apple because, well, it's green apple. it's a no-brainer.}

{the label and the closest pic i could get my hands on}

{and the back, where you can add a quote - here i have some lyrics from queen's you're my best friend}
Oh, and there's something else, but I can't stand writing this post anymore. The longer it gets, the harder it is to do anything other than simply type. Blogger has some serious issues that need to fix.
But, if you check out the website, you'll see what I'm talking about, which is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Limited Edition Soda!!!
I'd never order them, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a few from a store. Very cool.

orange and aqua

Sometimes it's just worth being straightforward with a title. I'm kinda loving the mix of these two colours. Together, they remind me of a very cool, almost tacky, definitely kitsch kitchen from the 70s... or would it be the 60s? 50s?
Don't judge, it's hard to keep track of what was in when when you didn't exists at the time.
