meet the face of the north

Speaking of Christmas and subzero temperatures, I have decided that it is high time to invest in a proper Canadian winter jacket. I live in the Great White North, for crying out loud! What has taken me so long?

Now, let's be clear. When I say it's time to invest, I mean it's for someone to invest in a proper winter jacket. Christmas is coming up and I think this lovely specimen below would do a fabulous job of keeping me warm (and dry) thoughout all of the weather Canada can throw at me.

{the north face - kira triclimate jacket}

But I'm not picky -any Triclimate jacket will do. I love them all! I'm going to stop creeping the North Face website before I get a specific idea of the one I want. After many occasions of out-of-stock and discontinued fiascos, I've learned not to get to attached to a particular model.

brogues obsessed

Most of my friends and family disapprove of this new-found fancy of mine. But the heart wants what it wants - regardless of how vehemently my Robert despises them.

the old with the new

I might need a laptop, but I want a typewriter. Obviously, I have no need for a typewriter, but I can always create one should I so choose.

I just think it would make a welcome addition to my already-vintage-laden home. So, for *anyone* out there who might one day desire to get me a wonderful gift - you know who you are - take note.

wound, meet salt

I liked, nay loved, my bike. It had true sentimental value and was super vintage-cool. Now, as you may know, it is gone.
Yes, I'm still bitter about it.
Today, as I was making my rounds of the blogosphere, I found this post on sfgirlbybay.

Yes, mine had a good 40 years on this one... and was rusty and a little bit broken and heavier than my car. But it was mine. I had a comfy, vintage bike and now I don't, and after reading this post I want one more, and can't really afford it right now.
bummer

can i live here? (the less virtual version)

So you guys know which website I want to live in (sfgirlbybay), and now I've found the store I would like to call home.
This may be old news for most of you, but Pottery Barn is awesome. Everything is so spend-all-my-savings, max-out-my-credit-card worthy. Well ok, everything may be too strong a word - I like a mix of styles - but there are some things that I just adore!
On my little jaunt to Toronto I came across a Pottery Barn, which are desperately lacking in Quebec, and I fell in love with this duvet cover. It's thick, heavy and rough, which might not seem to add up to a great duvet cover, but I think it looks incredibly comfy-cozy!

Is it wrong that I want to get engaged just so I can register at Pottery Barn and add this to my list?
Don't worry, I wouldn't just add that to my list. There are a great many other things I would love to own.

These great "drink dispensers" have the advantage of not only being a fun summer... umm... accessory, but they would be totally useful at my rustic yet elegant wedding I plan on having sometime during this lifetime.

...sigh

choosing a bag is like choosing a mate

And I cannot emphasize what a perfect match me and this bag make.

It's got everything I want for that fun summer fling: the stripes, the material, the two short straps and a long one (for when you can't feel your arm anymore), the price - which doesn't force you into any kind of serious commitment...just everything!

I really, really want it.

how i woke up this morning

You know that feeling when you go to bed knowing that the next morning you have absolutely no obligations and therefore no need for an alarm clock? You know that you'll get to wake up whenever your body tells you to. Isn't that a great feeling?

Yesterday, I went to bed with that very fact in mind.

This morning at 7:00 am , however, I woke up to the crashing sound of my bedside lamp. Annoyed and bleary-eyed, I dutifully got up and cleaned the glass and gave up on the idea of going back to bed. I would just lie there awake - might as well get something done, I figured.

How did my lamp break if I was sound asleep? Well, it wasn't the cat - she came running in to the room, not out, when I woke up. It was me who unwittingly pulled the cord with my pillow.

The problem: this is my lamp (only 4 inches high)and this is my nightstand

To get any decent lighting from the tiny lamp I had to put it on the back board...bad move. Silver lining is I now have an excuse to go to Ikea, the place where dreams come true.

And while I'm on the Ikea subject, I love these. Too bad I have neither place nor need for either...

this poster
(and the movie at that)
I know it isn't "new", and everyone has already seen it - both movie and poster - a dozen times over, but that's what happens when you like it vintage, I suppose.
I still want it in my home.
